~ Sun Safe Shades set to focus on schools, nurseries and colleges ~A new business, called Sun Safe Shades Ltd, has been launched in the UK to help tackle the growing problem of protecting children from the harmful effects of the sun. The business will supply shade sails to schools, nurseries, further education establishments and other organisations that host large groups of children.
Shade sails are permanent structures erected on poles or attached to the side of a building. Sun Safe’s sails feature canopies that protect children from more than 90 per cent of the harmful rays of the sun. They are impervious to the damaging effects of extreme temperatures and allow the wind to continue cooling the children seeking shelter beneath them.
"As a society we have rightly become more and more concerned about the exposure to the sun our children receive during their school years," explained Malcolm Burgess, managing director of Sun Safe Shades Ltd. "Medical research suggests that between 50 and 80 per cent of each persons total lifetime exposure to the sun happens while they are at school. The objective of Sun Safe Shades is to mitigate for that."
The new company, which is based in Northampton, will sell shades manufactured by Gale Pacific under its Coolaroo brand. Developed in Australia, the Coolaroo fabric is a market leading sun protection product. As well as offering large sails for schools, colleges and nurseries the business will also provide domestic sails ideal for use in the home nurseries or by nannies.
